Terms of use
Draft
This page is a draft and does not constitute a legal agreement. The final terms will be reviewed by qualified counsel before public launch. Until then, treat the contents as the maintainer's stated intent — not as legally binding terms.
Acceptable use
Atlas is provided for analytical and informational purposes. You agree not to:
- Use Atlas to attempt to identify private individuals from public AIS / ADS-B feeds in violation of local law or the upstream provider's terms.
- Re-distribute upstream provider data in ways that breach the upstream license.
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, authentication, or feature gating.
- Scrape or automate the Atlas frontend in ways that bypass the documented API. Programmatic access goes through the API.
- Use Atlas to coordinate harassment, stalking, or any activity that puts identified individuals at risk.
No financial advice
Atlas surfaces market data, fundamentals, and analytical tooling. Nothing in the product constitutes investment advice, recommendation, or solicitation. You are solely responsible for your investment decisions and any consequences thereof.
The AI chat (AI chat) summarizes data — its output is not advice. Treat AI summaries as drafts to verify, not conclusions to act on.
AI chat outputs
AI chat output is analytical drafting only. Atlas makes no representation that AI summaries are accurate, complete, current, or suitable for any particular purpose, including:
- Identity inference (operator, owner, beneficial controller of a vessel, aircraft, or business entity).
- Legal conclusions (sanctions exposure, regulatory status, fitness for export).
- Operational decisions where errors carry material consequence (trading, journalism, intelligence).
You are solely responsible for verifying AI output against primary sources before acting on it or publishing it. Atlas is not liable for any harm — reputational, financial, or otherwise — arising from reliance on AI chat output.
No warranty
Atlas is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Upstream data providers may delay, alter, or remove data at any time. Atlas does not warrant:
- The accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any displayed data.
- That AIS / ADS-B coverage is complete (it is not — see Data delays & limits).
- That fundamentals match the underlying issuer's filings exactly (see FAQ).
- Continuous availability, error-free operation, or backwards compatibility.
Upstream provider compliance
Atlas integrates with Finnhub, EODHD, OpenSky, MarineTraffic, Cesium Ion, and Stripe. Each provider has its own terms. By using Atlas, you also accept these where they apply to your use:
- No re-distribution. Data licensed from upstream providers may not be exported, resold, or republished except as permitted by the relevant provider's terms. In particular: Finnhub data is licensed for in-app analysis only; EODHD usage scales with your subscription tier on EODHD.
- Attribution. Where you reproduce data sourced via Atlas (in a report, a dashboard you share, an article), retain the upstream provider's attribution: e.g., "AIS data sourced from MarineTraffic via Atlas". Cesium Ion's attribution overlay must remain visible on any embedded globe screenshot.
- Local law on OSINT layers. Use of AIS / ADS-B layers is bounded by the law of your jurisdiction. Some countries restrict collection or redistribution of vessel or aircraft positions; you are responsible for compliance.
- Stripe Restricted Business Policy. Paid subscriptions are subject to Stripe's Restricted Business List. Accounts in restricted industries or sanctioned regions may be refused or terminated.
Self-hosted instances
If you self-host Atlas (see Self-hosting):
- You are the operator of that instance and are responsible for compliance with applicable law and upstream provider terms.
- The codebase license governs your use of the code itself.
- These terms apply to instances we host; for self-hosted instances, terms are between your users and you.
Reporting abuse / takedown
If you believe Atlas is being used to harass, dox, or otherwise put a private individual at risk in violation of the Acceptable use clause, report it to abuse@atlas-terminal.io with:
- The Atlas permalink, dashboard, or workspace identifier (where known).
- A short description of the conduct and why it violates these terms.
- Your contact details for follow-up.
We will acknowledge reports within five business days, investigate, and act proportionately — up to and including account suspension. Reported users may submit a counter-notice to the same address.
For data-subject requests under privacy law (GDPR Article 15 access, erasure, etc.), see Privacy notice — your rights.
Force majeure
Neither party is liable for delays or failure to perform caused by events beyond reasonable control: upstream provider outages, large-scale network incidents, infrastructure-provider failures, denial-of-service attacks, government action, or similar events. Where such an event materially affects the service, we will communicate via the Changelog and, where appropriate, by email.
Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify the maintainers against third-party claims arising from your use of Atlas in breach of (a) these Terms, (b) applicable law, or (c) the upstream provider terms incorporated above. This does not apply to claims caused by the maintainers' breach of these Terms or by gross negligence on our part.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, the maintainers' aggregate liability under these Terms is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. Where you have paid nothing (free tier), liability is correspondingly zero.
To the extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or loss of business opportunity, even if advised of the possibility.
The cap above does not apply to:
- Breaches of the Privacy notice or applicable data-protection law (e.g., GDPR / CCPA), to the extent excluding such liability would be unenforceable.
- Willful misconduct, fraud, or gross negligence by either party.
- A party's indemnification obligations under "Indemnity" above.
- Death or personal injury caused by negligence, where the law does not permit the cap.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change materially, we will post the change in the Changelog and notify active users by email at the address on file. Continued use of Atlas after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, in particular the acceptable-use clauses above. You may terminate at any time by deleting your account from the user menu.
